In Fear

In Fear

In this post I will be discussing the British film "In Fear". I will be talking about the genre; I will be explaining how you can see, in the cinematography, what production context the film fits in.
The genre of this film is a horror, it includes scenes that make the audience jump and feel scared which is typical for a good horror film. The scenes are usually low lit, based in the dark and this is something that is a lot of peoples fear, one that many people have brought with them from there childhood. This is because when using the dark the main horror is the unknown, anything could be happening. Also the music used in this film is the typical eerie music to make the audience feel uneasy and create suspense.
The production context for the movie 'In Fear' is a British production, this is because of where the film is based, the typical British weather witnessed in the film and the typical British swearing and slang. Also the names of the characters are considered to be typically British names. The location of the film was set in Cornwall, England. This is a typical British area as there are a lot of country roads, hills, and forests. Typical British weather is dull, grey skies and a lot of rain; this is what was happening throughout the film. There was a scene at the beginning when 'Tom' and 'Lucy' were in the car and the weather looked cold, wet and rained a lot.
There are three main stars in this horror production, Alice Englert, Ian De Caestecker and Allen Leech. These stars have been known to be in other productions in the past, before being part of this film, and this helps give the film more publicity.
The narrative for 'In Fear’ is about two people who have known each other for around 2 weeks and are traveling to a hotel the night before a music festival. They get lost in a maze and cant escape the same place they always end up in. This is a completely different narrative compared to 'World War Z' and 'Rise of the Zombie' because both of those are based on zombies. 'In Fear' is an original idea that uses the location and scenery of the typical British environment to scare people.
The dialog that is used in 'In Fear' is very different compared to 'World War Z' and 'Rise of the Zombie' as these two films keep the offensive language to a minim or just didn’t use it at all. In the British production foul language is used a lot, for example the words 'Piss' and 'Fuck' come up regularly. The reason for the amount of offensive language used is because in British culture, these words are used in most people’s everyday life. It is normal for the words to be said and heard by people.
The location used in this film is what shows us that this film is a British production. It was also a good way to show it has a horror genre by the large amount of trees and forest areas, and because of the winding roads it make it look confusing and easy to get lost, which is the main narrative of the film.
The technology that has been used in 'In Fear' is simple but also effective, the use of a voice over is easy to do but really helps explain the backstory before the current narrative begins. Also the use of split screens at the beginning shows what’s happening, so that we can understand the film better. Although the technology is simple, it is used in a way that is more creative, and a way that helps push he story along for the audience, rather than creating something visual to scare the audience with.
